Make my Cake

I work from home most days so I often visit local cafes. Lately I have been going to Make My Cake a lot. One day I happened to arrive just as a tray of croissants came out of the oven. of course I had to buy one and it was amazing! I've been eating croissants non stop since.

Breakneck Hike

Break neck ridge is a popular hike north of NYC.  It is rather challenging but the views are spectacular. We missed the morning train out of Grand Central but waited the hour for the next train. It turned out to be a lovely day and a really fun hike. I highly recommend it.

Log pile

I have been running in central park a lot recently. Every lap around the loop, I stare at this large pile of logs. They are so beautiful! I finally took my camera for a walk in the park and took tons of photos of the cut trees.  I keep thinking that if I was more handy, I would take some logs home and make something beautiful with them.

spring buds

Spring came early in New York City! In mid March, the weather got warmer and the trees were eager to bloom. Everyone rushed out side, including me. This day I was on my bike in central park when I saw this tree and had to pull over to take pictures.

Windy Fire Island walk

In mid March we took the train out to Fire Island for a beach hike. the weather was very windy and rather cold but being out there made me so happy.  We found a spot on the board walk protected by the dunes to sit and have some lunch. It was an amazing Sunday and made me wish for more weekends at the beach.

urban elephants

Columbus Circle is one of my favorite spots in NYC, no particular reason, it just makes me happy. So in January I smiled when I spotted some pretty elephants hanging out in the circle!  Apparently they are part of this awesome public art work along Broadway from 59th st to 168th street. very cool.

Winter branches

Walking through central park on a winter afternoon, I couldn't stop looking at the web of tree branches. So exposed and bare.  Trees covered with lush green leaves are always awesome but there is also a beauty in these naked branches.

3 years

For our three year anniversary last week, the boyfriend sent me these amazing flowers. We were talking on the phone when they arrived at my door.  This surprise delivery made me smile for days :) I love them!

Taco Mix

In mid January my sister and her boyfriend were in town for the weekend. Despite the freezing cold, we ventured to this East Harlem taco shop and had a delicious lunch. I loved adding the sauces and fixins to make mine extra spicy!

homemade Oreo goodness

Last week I made these delicious Homemade OREOS for a cookie exchange party with friends. I was inspired by this post I saw ages ago and I was really excited to have a great reason to make them.
I made two batches (third container of cookies not pictured). I brought most to the cookie party and wrapped the extras up to give to three other friends as a surprise ;) They were such a hit and so good.

Don't wait! Go make these cookies now and share them with your friends. You will be glad you did.

Welcome

When I was younger we used to sing the Magic Penny song. I really loved this song and still do.
It has easy lyrics, a good pace, upbeat tempo, and hand gestures to go along with the words.

Here are the lyrics:
Love is something if you give it away,
Give it away, give it away.
Love is something if you give it away,
You end up having more.

It's just like a magic penny,
Hold it tight and you won't have any.
Lend it, spend it, and you'll have so many
They'll roll all over the floor.

The image of pennies rolling all over the floor always makes me smile :) and i like the idea that one magic penny can become an abundance of pennies.
Unfortunately, it is too easy to get caught up in our own problems and be selfish with our time and resources.
I'd like to focus more on giving and gratitude. Even if all I have to give is something as small as a penny.... it could be a penny that a family member, friend, or stranger really needs.

Welcome to a magic penny blog!
